Another championship Saturday for Mason Cross Country! The Comets continued their remarkable tradition of excellence at Voice of America MetroPark, sweeping the 2026 Greater Miami Conference (GMC) Cross Country Championships. The Mason boys captured their sixth consecutive and 15th overall GMC title, while the Lady Comets secured their seventh straight and 15th overall conference crown, completing another impressive championship double for the Mason program.

Both teams delivered outstanding performances on the 5,000-meter course, showcasing the depth, determination, and championship culture that have made Mason Cross Country one of Ohio's premier programs.

LADY COMETS RISE TO THE CHALLENGE — SEVEN STRAIGHT, 15 OVERALL!

The Mason girls entered Saturday's championship facing stiff competition from Sycamore and Oak Hills, both considered favorites to challenge for the conference crown. But the Lady Comets had other plans!

Mason took charge early and held off late challenges from both teams to secure its seventh consecutive and 15th overall GMC Championship.

Leading the way was Atalia Hawkins, who delivered a season-best performance. Freshman standout Emma Hauck followed with another terrific race, narrowly missing the 19-minute barrier.

The Comets' impressive pack running proved decisive, with Auna Koro, Emily Moran, and Ally Moran providing crucial scoring support. Eva Mather and sophomore Evie Marvich added valuable depth, competing hard throughout the race.

As Sycamore surged late and Oak Hills applied pressure, the Lady Comets responded with determination, picking off competitors down the stretch to preserve the championship victory.

The title was a testament to Mason's competitive spirit, teamwork, and ability to perform when the stakes are highest.

COMET BOYS TRUST THE SYSTEM — SIX STRAIGHT, 15 OVERALL!

For the Mason boys, Saturday's championship was the culmination of a season-long message: "Trust the system."

After working throughout the fall to find their rhythm, the Comets put everything together when it mattered most, capturing their sixth consecutive and 15th overall GMC Championship.

One of the most encouraging aspects of Mason's victory was the tight spread among its top five varsity finishers. The strong pack performance demonstrated the team's depth, discipline, and commitment to running together.

The success extended well beyond the varsity championship race. Across the varsity and open competitions, Mason runners combined for an impressive 56 personal-best performances, highlighting the continued development and promising future of the program.

While the Comets recognize there is still work ahead to achieve their ultimate postseason goals, Saturday's performance provided tremendous momentum heading into the championship stretch.

POSTSEASON CHALLENGE AWAITS

With another pair of GMC championship trophies secured, Mason now turns its attention to the OHSAA postseason.

The boys will look to defend their regional championship, while the girls seek to continue their impressive run and earn another trip to the OHSAA State Championships in Columbus. The Regional Championships are slated for Saturday, Oct. 31st at Troy.

Six straight for the boys. Seven straight for the girls. Fifteen GMC championships apiece. One remarkable Mason Cross Country tradition!
